MAP Activities in Palpa and Kanchanpur district


MAP Team Nepal visited Palpa and Kanchanpur districts on 3 -7 January 2021. During visit following activity was organized.

2 Meeting with local government representative

COIs Bishnu Bahadur Khatri and Rajib Timalsina, Project manager of MAP, Pandav Khatri had a meeting with local government representative of Tansen Municipality of palpa district and Mahakali Municipality and Bhimdatta Municipality of Kanchanpur district. During the meeting practice of art based activities in school within the respective municipality was discussed.

The discussion was focus on how local policy can influence on the academic curricular in the school within their municipality. And role of local government representative to strengthen school’s capacity.

Usage of art’s form in learning was introduced. CoIs Bishnu and Rajib explained about MAP activities and how such activity can be useful in learning process and ultimately that can contribute for peacebuilding.

2 Meetings with cultural artist:

MAP team had meeting with Local Cultural Artist, painter Raju Ruchal and his team. Raju is professional painter in Palpa district. He has been teaching painting in Palpa district. He teaches in school and out of school. During meeting how painting can contribute in learning process was discussed. He shared his story of his journey in painting profession.

MAP team also had meeting with local cultural artist Mr. Sushil Pandey and his team at Kanchanur district. He is film maker. Usage of film and video in peacebuilding was discuss. He shared his experience in film industry. In the meeting, how video can be better useful to the children for their learning process also discussed.

3 meeting with child club member:

MAP team had meeting with member of child club at Palpa and Kanchanpur district. During the meeting student shared their experience doing extracurricular activity in school. COIs Bishnu and Rajib explained about usage of art in their learning process and they have also introduced some activity to student. They had demonstrated some MAP activity to the student.

5 meeting with school management committee

MAP team had separate meeting with school management committee of following school:

 Janpriya Secondary School, Tansen Palpa

Mohan Kanya, Secondary school, Tansen Palpa

Kanchanur District:

Janajyoti Secondary school, Deurali, Mahakaki Municipality, Kanchanur

Mahendranagar higher secondary school, Bhimdatta Municipality, kanchanpur

COIs Bishnu and Rajib have introduced MAP to the committee members. Meeting was focus on how MAP can effectively incorporated in the school’s regular activity and it can have developed as regular activity. During meeting role of school management committee to effectively implementation of art based learning was discussed.

5 Map manual activity orientation to teachers and child club representative

MAP team have organized MAP manual orientation program to the focal teachers and child club members of following school

Janajyoti Secondary school, Deurali, Mahakaki Municipality, Kanchanur

Description of orientation:

CoI Bishnu: Mr. Bishnu bahadur Khatri explained briefly about MAP manual activities. He has clearly introduced exercise. He has demonstrated how MAP activity works in our learning. He shared their experience of their role play video about MAP exercise in UK.

He requested focal teacher to list out related exercise about Map in this school. He explained beauty of MAP and its future possibility to the school.

Bishnu also said “we have been adopting arts only as part of extracurricular activity in school, however, MAP plan to incorporate such art activity in class room as part of regular subject”.

COI Rajib: discuss about how MAP is technically working with children. He said, learning approach of children is very poor in the Nepal. He mentioned about gaps in the teacher approach.

He also explained about STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) education that government of Nepal is going to introduce this concept in Nepal and we are advocating to make it STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics).

Teacher: we do have some musical instrument that we are not able to use them it is due to lack of training to teacher and student.

Conclusion: Teacher: All teachers had same voice, they said we do have some musical instrument that we are not able to use them it is due to lack of training to teacher and student. They said “we have been trying to make our teaching system better with art and technology, but we have very limited resources”. Teacher shared their teaching experience from the past.
